Allied Telesis

Core Network Solutions

A reliable network core is of paramount importance. Every medium to large business must have a network core that provides both an adequate capacity for current and future traffic requirements, and resilience in the event of failure. Other network requirements include redundant power supplies, expandable modular switches, and data path redundancy.

The latest generation of Allied Telesis switches provide all of this and more – with hot-swappable power supplies, highly granular expansion modules, and superior resiliency through the use of high speed stacking solutions.

Solutions for Campuses

Allied Telesis products allow education providers to offer high-speed connections to the desktop for power users, and to utilize high-capacity uplinks for maximum throughput of high-density traffic.

In the above example, servers and management work stations connect directly to the SwitchBlade x908 in the network core using Gigabit Ethernet, via XEM-12T expansion modules. Links from the server farm to the core can also be trunked to allow for greater bandwidth and resiliency. Industry leading QoS features on the SwitchBlade x908 allow voice and video traffic to be prioritized over less critical network traffic.

In the main building, edge switches uplink to the core via fiber connections to the XEM-12S, a 12 port (100/1000 BASE-X SFP) expansion module. Other buildings uplink to the core via 10 Gigabit links from x900 switches to XEM-1XP modules on the SwitchBlade x908. This enables large graphics files, along with video and voice, to be easily transferred.

For further expansion, the XEM-STK stacking module provides two proprietary 15Gbps stacking links via specialised stacking cables. You can achieve superior scalability with individual stacked nodes, which can be inserted into and removed from the stack as bandwidth and feature requirements in your network evolve. The SwitchBlade x908 also supports proprietary 40Gbps stacking links, allowing you to add a further SwitchBlade x908 to the core without compromising bandwidth.

Solutions for Medium Businesses

Allied Telesis design their products to implement modular growth as necessary. They offer the ideal solution when you want a future proof network that will both accommodate your needs today, and scale to meet your future requirements.

With its impressive port density and advanced modular design, the SwitchBlade x908 is ideal for your medium business network core. High bandwidth capacity and advanced port flexibility allow your network to cope with traffic from edge switches, while still allowing direct connections from management stations, VoIP phones and security cameras. Powerful QoS features efficiently prioritize different traffic types, guaranteeing the delivery of high priority data.

In the above example:

  • Video security monitoring, VoIP phones and wireless access points connect directly to the SwitchBlade x908 network core
  • Copper ports on a XEM-12T, a 12 port Gigabit Ethernet copper expansion module, directly connect the SwitchBlade x908 to servers
  • The SwitchBlade x908 links the network to the Internet via an AR750S router
  • A XEM-12S, a 12 port (100/1000 BASE-X SFP) expansion module, provides fiber uplinks from the edge switches to the SwitchBlade x908

You can add additional expansion modules as your company grows, allowing your network to adapt in response to business needs. The high-speed expansion bays allow for both copper and fiber connectivity – delivering the ultimate in flexibility, and providing complete non-blocking traffic throughput.
